I have worked in the special ed department of LAUSD for 13 years. I helped to create and implement individualized lesson plans, worked one to one with students, assisted teachers in maintaining discipline, worked with behavioral and emotional modification plans, reinforced learning situations and supervised groups of students. Students have ranged in age from 4 to 21. Have worked with students with various diagnoses, including ADD/ADHD. I have had the privilege of assisting the Special Ed. Department Chair and Coordinator; additional duties as their assistant included: memo writing, organizing meetings, and scheduling general ed. Teachers for I.E.P. mtgs., interfacing between special ed. and general ed. departments. I was also trained in and administered the K-TEA, which provides academic assessment to Special Ed. Students. Translated for many I.E.P. meetings (English/Spanish).

I have also worked in a classroom serving autistic students for a summer. Outside of the school district I worked 2 years with an boy diagnosed with Autism. I worked as a care assistant and tutor: Helping with homework, meal times, driving to karate, supervising play dates, and parties.

I intuited that Janet M. was very insightful based on our e-mail thread before meeting and it was confirmed based on her conversation with my son. Although her evaluation was for my so to go to an educational therapist, her discussion gave us both insights into how he is able to process material. I would highly recommend her.
